I took my son (16) to the Watershed last night to the 'Resfest'. The Resfest is a wonderful international festival of short digital films and animations - Check it out - it runs all weekend and includes a Jonathon Glazier retrospective (The guy that did the Guinness horses Ad and Radiohead's 'Street Spirit'.

Single Camera Programme Making

Some good new Media courses coming up in January.

The first one is a 'Single Camera Programme Making' course suitable for 'advanced amateurs,’ aspiring film-makers or media professionals who want to learn modern 'self-shooting' digital video techniques. We're hoping that this will be the first of a number of such courses- the only caveat is that we've got to be able to them well (equipment AND staff)

For those who want a qualification in Broadcast Media, this is a new (only got QCA approval last week) NVQ Level 3 (Advanced level) qualification and is accredited by the University of the Arts and approved by ‘Skillset’.

The Tutors will be Adam Ranson and Emma Simpson - an experienced BBC and Independent TV Director.

We will go through the basic techniques and professional practices of One Camera Digital Video production – including:

Production Planning
Professional Practice
The operation of cameras
Sound recording and the use of microphones
Location and Studio techniques
Lighting
Digital editing using 'Final Cut Pro'
Health and Safety
Legal and Insurance issues

For those who wish to develop their skills further there will be a ‘follow up’ course, which concentrates exclusively on digital video editing. I'm hoping to get 'G' an experienced editor and pop promo film maker to teach the course.

Both courses will run for 15 weeks and include three all day Saturday sessions.

The courses will cost approximately £110. Course members will NOT need their own video camera or personal computer.

Hello

Does anyone read this stuff- probably not - The dissertation is finished and got a good response- after a total makeover - For the finished thing see www.filcommedia.org 'Files'.

Today is the first day of October half-term and I've just got back on line after an aborted attempt to switch to Broadband.

I'm now a 'Manager' at Fiton College- the exciting bit of this is that the Media area is going to expand in the next year- with a TV studio and a Foundation Course in Animation .

We're working with ITV West and BBC Documentary and Contemporary Factual.

David Hume , the Student who won the month of work experience at the BBC this year- Is now on his first contract at BBC Bristol - Will Borthwick who won last years prize has worked pretty much full-time since last year and is making his first few features.- See his website www.facefilms.com
